Thursday, March 5th, 1908: Rookie draft day is here! A day of excitement and anticipation in the baseball world. A big day for Mixed History Baseball League teams and all of the aspiring amateur players eligible to be drafted. The first five choices will be made by Boston, Chicago, Washington, New York and Cincinnati.

It has been reported on BNN that the first ten selections are likely to include:


1. Nap Lajoie, 20 year-old first baseman out of college.
2. Hugh Daily, 24 year-old starting pitcher out of college.
3. Steve Blass, 20 year-old starting pitcher out of college.
4. Dave Ferriss, 22 year-old starting pitcher out of college.
5. Monte Irvin, 29 year-old first baseman out of college.
6. Josh Beckett, 19 year-old starting pitcher out of high-school.
7. Dave Stieb, 20 year-old starting pitcher out of college.
8. Alex Fernandez, 19 year-old starting pitcher out of high-school.
9. Greg Brummett, 24 year-old starting pitcher out of college.
10. Doc Watson, 26 year-old starting pitcher out of college

Monday, November 11th, 1907: All year long Willie Mays feasted on American pitching to the tune of a .376 batting average. For his outstanding efforts he collected the league's Outstanding Hitter Award for 1907.

The Philadelphia Athletics center fielder slammed opposing pitchers for 244 hits, 60 home runs and 175 RBIs, while scoring 171 times.

Sunday, November 10th, 1907: The Outstanding Pitcher Award for 1907 has been presented and the National winner is Chris Hammond of St. Louis.

"It's always nice to receive an award like this," said Hammond. "I just hope I can improve on my performance next year and be in the running again," the Cardinals star told reporters.

Hammond excelled with an impressive 16-6 record in 30 starts. In 199.1 innings he yielded 171 hits and 75 walks, while striking out 169 and compiling a fine 3.39 ERA.

Monday, November 11th, 1907: The top batter in the National in 1907 was Pittsburgh left fielder Babe Ruth. Today he was named the winner of the Outstanding Hitter Award.

Ruth starred this season with a .361 batting average, 184 hits, 53 home runs, 150 RBIs, .532 OBP and 161 runs scored.
