Gentry Whitewashes Reds

Sunday, June 18th, 1905: The Cincinnati Reds were almost helpless today in their 7-0 loss to Boston hurler Gary Gentry. He kept them confused the entire ballgame and spun a 2-hit shutout.

The Cincinnati manager said in the postgame interview, "Tip your hat to Gentry. He kept us off balance all night."

Gentry said, "It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play. It was just one of those games that things went my way."

He had 4 walks and 7 strikeouts in a strong performance.

To date this season Gentry is 7-4 with 12 starts and an ERA of 3.48 with 32 strikeouts in 77.2 innings.

Sunday, June 4th, 1905: What did Fred McGriff eat for breakfast prior to his game against Detroit? Whatever it was, it provided some surprising power as the St. Louis first baseman smacked three balls up and out of the park at Sportsman's Park III. His power surge sparked the Browns to a 8-1 victory over the Tigers.

He told BNN reporters, "When they throw it in your wheelhouse, you got a shot at a homer. I got three shots today and nailed them all."

On his 3-homer day he went 3 for 4, scored 3 times, drove in 4 and put his name in the league record book.

F. McGriff hit a solo-shot off S. Siebert in the 2nd, struck out in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off C. Hudson in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off M. Barlow in the 8th.

Presently McGriff is batting .291 with 6 home runs and 18 RBIs. He has played in 21 games and scored 19 times.
