Tuesday, October 9th, 1906: Add the name Davy Force to the list of baseball players to hit .400 or better in a single season. The Chicago shortstop joined that elite group by hitting a jaw-dropping .425 this year. "To be mentioned among baseball's immortals," said Force, "is beyond my wildest dreams." Force's 244 hits included 33 doubles, 5 triples and 3 home runs. He also scored 94 runs and batted in 70. |
